Whatcom County Parks and Recreation Environmental Assessment

Whatcom County Parks and Recreation Environmental Assessment

Client: Whatcom County Parks and Recreation

Case Study: Peak completed an Environmental Analysis for the Lake Whatcom Park/Lookout Mountain Park Trail Plan (Plan). The Environmental Analysis supports the SEPA review process for the Plan. The EA provides an alternatives analysis for development of the preferred trail system design and other options that were considered. This effort also identified avoidance, minimization, and mitigation strategies for potential impacts from the Plan.

Impact: The county recognized that efforts to provide additional protection to the Lake Whatcom watershed and water quality could also be accommodated through the broad interpretation of park purposes and implementation of best management practices. The Trail Plan examined many options for public access to the newly acquired land protecting Bellingham’s drinking water and recreational resources.

Testimonial: “We have used Peak to assist us in facilitating community meetings for our Parks, Recreation and Open Space planning and for preparation of environmental assessments on park development projects. We have always found their staff to be professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with.  They have a solid understanding of our needs and were able to fully deliver services within the scope, schedule and budget of the projects they’ve work on.” Michael McFarlane, Whatcom County Parks and Recreation, Director
