Client: Twin Sisters Olivine, Whatcom County
Case Study: Peak served as project manager for a multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional planning effort to develop a new Sven Larson Mine reclamation plan. For nearly a decade, this process in Whatcom County required local, state, and federal agency coordination, an integrated NEPA/SEPA approach, environmental review and document preparation, and sub-contractor management.
Impact: Peak’s experience and attention to detail in these complex processes allowed our client to focus on business operations while looking to the future. Providing an interface between the company and the Washington Department of Ecology and negotiations with regulatory agencies, Peak provided predictability for the company’s operations involving obtaining the operational permit, reclamation permit, and an approved stormwater permit. The Twin Sisters olivine formation is the largest in the world. Crushed olivine has the potential to facilitate the sequestration of carbon in the ocean.
Testimonial: “David and his team have done a great job addressing the complexities of our planning and permit process for the Swen Larson Quarry. Their ability to develop strategy and patiently communicate and advocate for Twin Sisters Olivine has smoothed the way in our negotiations with the regulatory agencies. As a result of their work, we now have predictability for our operations for many years to come. Call these folks if you need environmental services.” Corky Smith, Chief Executive, Olivine Corporation
