Client: San Juan County Marine Resources Committee
Case Study: Peak facilitated a two-day workshop sponsored by the San Juan County Marine Resources Committee that considered the economic, social, and environmental impacts of an oil spill in the San Juan Islands. The workshop attracted over 70 participants representing residents and representatives from local, state, federal, and Canadian agencies, Coast Salish nations, and non-governmental organizations.
Impact: The San Juan Islands are a national treasure with significant international recreational, economic, and natural value to the region. The Strait of Juan de Fuca is the site of significant vessel traffic spanning the northwest border of Canada and the USA. Oil spill planning is a key component to preserving the pristine waters of this area as well as mitigating impacts of vessel traffic on endangered species such as the orca and salmon and preventing a catastrophic oil spill disaster from ever happening.
Testimonial: “Peak’s facilitation and reporting services were essential in our organization’s ability to address critical issues among a diversity of topics and interests in the short time frame of our event. Their ability to formulate the issues and move the audience and agenda to address the critical issues helped us to formulate our next strategies and direction.” Arnie Klaus, Marine Resources Committee Coordinator, San Juan County Marine Resources
