Today’s most exciting businesses (Ben and Jerry’s, Patagonia, and Danone among 3500+ others) are operating for the benefit of all who contribute to its success — for shareholders and for stakeholders. They take responsibility for their broader impact on employees, on communities and on the planet. There are over 3500 B Corps in the US — the majority of which are small businesses. B Corp Certification doesn’t just evaluate a product or service; it assesses the overall positive impact of the company that stands behind it. And increasingly that’s what people care most about. It all started in 2006, when “three friends left careers in business and private equity and created an organization dedicated to making it easier for mission-driven companies to protect and improve their positive impact over time. The first 82 B Corps were certified in 2007. B Corp certification requires businesses to meet the highest standards of verified CSR and environmental performance, as well as transparency and legal accountability.
