Washington Environmental Health Disparities Map
Washington Environmental Health Disparities Map
In winter 2017, the Washington Environmental Justice Mapping Work Group was initiated by Front and Centered, an environmental justice coalition of organizations rooted in communities of color. The resulting interactive mapping tool developed by the UW Department of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences (DEOHS) and partners ranks Washington communities most impacted by environmental health risks.
The Washington Environmental Health Disparities Map is interactive and compares communities across our state for environmental health disparities. The map shows pollution measures such as diesel emissions and ozone, as well as proximity to hazardous waste sites.
In addition, the map displays measures like poverty and cardiovascular disease. The map also provides new and rigorous insights into where public investments can be prioritized to buffer environmental health impacts on Washington’s communities, so that everyone can benefit from clean air, clean water, and a healthy environment.
