Building Resilience through Comprehensive Planning
Client: Whatcom County
Case Study: While at Western Washington University (Western), Sarah Parker served as project manager for a WA Department of Commerce-funded project facilitated through a partnership between Western and Whatcom County. During the project, Sarah coordinated the efforts of Western students and faculty as they developed climate measure recommendations for small cities in Whatcom County to include in their GMA Comprehensive Plans.
Impact: Small cities may not have the resources to build climate resilience into their planning. This process enabled consistent coordination with city staff, county staff, and Western contacts. Sarah also facilitated the six-person project steering committee which kept the project on track.
